Note from our Pastor, Dr. J.K. Warrick
My Hope is built on . . .
Unprecedented times . . . these are unprecedented times! There’s a scarcity mentality building all across the country. We are not yet experiencing collective hysteria but . . . . If you are like me you have watched your retirement savings take a beating, find store shelves empty of things you might need for daily living, were stunned with the cancellation of national sporting events, miss the privilege of meeting with friends for a meal or conversation, share the disappointment of students whose lives have been disrupted, feel the pain of those displaced in the work place, and . . . well, the list goes on and on and on . . . . makes me feel almost helpless!
The truth is, there are legitimate reasons for concern on the part of every person on the planet! But . . . and this is critical to us as believers, all of these things are not the basis of our fundamental hope in life! Our faith in God is the bedrock on which we have built our lives, raised/are raising our children, manage our finances, shape our marriages, and generally live our lives. The OT is full of seasons in the lives of the people of God when their faith was tested by oppression, pestilence, plagues, and a variety of other very real challenges. In every case they weathered those times by faith.
Let’s get this straight: We are people of faith and hope living in an uncertain and, in some ways, an unprecedented time. Hear the Word of the Lord even as you hear the words of Fox News, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, newspapers, prognosticators, and naysayers:
. . . He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,” so that we may confidently say, “The Lord is my Helper, I will not be afraid.” Hebrews 13:5,6
“I will not be afraid.” Yes and Amen!
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand (Keith Getty)
My hearts responds with, “Yes and Amen!”
